The one Pinot Noir that is really different, aromatic and expressive is the 2012 Latuffa Pinot Noir; this wine is produced with the fruit form vineyards that have very shallow soils with a huge tuff (compacted volcanic ashes with small stones) chunk underneath -- a well-drained soil that generates very low yields. There are notes of aromatic herbs, chamomile, exotic spices, cola nut, and a core of ripe berries in a very showy and aromatic nose. The palate is very silky with flavors that bring back the notes found in the nose. This is more New World here, exotic and aromatic; Pedro Parra talks about 'funky-punky,' certainly showy, in a very specific style. This represents very good value. 1,680 bottles produced.
