Vineyard:All estate owned vineyards on pure schist with very steep inclines. Most of the vineyards are terraced. The vines for this cuvee are on the higer end of age and average near 80 years old.
Orientation:South facing in the Amandi sub zone.
Soil:schist or "losa" as it is locally known.
Viticulture:The vineyard work is all done by hand including harvest. Fernando Gonzalez is in charge of the viticulture and practices biodynamics.
Vinification:The wines are fermented with wild yeasts. The grapes are foot troden in large oak fermentation vats.
Aging:Aged in old French oak barrels for 12 months and 12 months in bottle.
Production:Average annual production is 3,000 bottles
Tasting:The name Pizarra comes from the Castillan Spanish word for slate.
