The 2015 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean has a crisp, honeysuckle and jasmine-scented bouquet that has better delineation than the Maltroie. The palate is well balanced with moderate weight in the mouth. The acidity is nicely poised with stem ginger notes surfacing towards the finish. There is a sense of "correctness" here, but there is nothing wrong with that at this early stage.

Notes of smoky reduction presently dominate the underlying fruit though I suspect it will eventually dissipate as this ages. Otherwise there is a bit more volume and richness if less minerality to the medium weight flavors that possess better vibrancy as well as slightly better complexity on the balanced and dry finish.

Pale yellow. Pear, lime, musky spices, white flowers and a whiff of honey on the nose. Juicy, firm and intense, with smooth, fine-grained citrus and floral flavors enlivened by saline minerality and a note of white pepper. This boasts clear minerality and noteworthy energy for the vintage. Finishes firm, spicy, savory and persistent.
