The 2016 Chablis Vieilles Vignes comes from three parcels that offered just 25 hectoliters this vintage. I love the way those wet limestone scents just pour from the glass. This could only come from one place. The palate is crisp and taut, perhaps just a touch more weight in the mouth than the Vaudécorse and a touch more persistence on the marine influenced, saline finish. Give this a year in bottle if you can because it is a classy, vibrant Chablis.
Full yellow with green highlights. Good lift to the aromas of mandarin orange, pink grapefruit and lemon zest. At once rich and quite dry, conveying a creamy quality and displaying the exotic fruit character that's typical of the Picq wines from ripe years. This fruit bomb finishes a bit youthfully aggressive but not harsh, with a floral nuance.
