With the high cost of fossil fuel driving up the cost of shipping, founder Matthew Cain saw the price of good imported wines rising out of range for the average buyer. In his search for a way to lower these costs for quality-conscious wine drinkers, he found a solution that is also great for the environment. Then he got a little “greener” by partnering with winemakers who harvest organically grown grapes and use only traditional, natural winemaking processes.
The result? Great tasting, certified organic wine that’s better for the planet and available at a great price. In fact, award-winning wine blogger Dr. Tyler Colman called his 2007 Malbec “a crazy-good value.”
Sauvignon Blanc, Chile 2009
Made from 100% organic Sauvignon Blanc grapes from Chile’s Central Valley. Medium weight, bright acidity with lingering flavors of lime and peach, with a refreshing mineral finish.
Chile has a long winemaking history dating back to the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. The Central Valley (or Valle Central) is close to the capital city of Santiago and sits directly West across the Andes from Argentina’s famed winemaking region of Mendoza.
It’s the country’s most productive and internationally known wine region, with a dry climate that averages only 15 inches of rain and has a low risk of springtime frost. The Andes mountains help create a wide variation in daytime and nighttime temperatures – cool nights and warm days that are vital in maintaining the grapes’ acidity levels.
