The 2013 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers comes from the oldest vines in the domaine planted in 1947 by Herve's father, Maurice Sigaut who is apparently still going strong at 90 years old. The domaine owns two-thirds of a hectare here. The nose is very well defined, nicely focused, unfurling with blackcurrant, a hint of blueberry and minerals - not unlike a Chambolle from Christophe Roumier. The palate is medium-bodied - very silky in the mouth, almost like a Vosne-Romanée, the acidity extremely well judged with a gentle grip on the slightly savory finish. This is another excellent 2013 from Sigaut - highly recommended. Bon vin!
A highly restrained, even shy nose requires considerable swirling to coax the cool purple fruit, spice and wet stone scents to reveal themselves. There is good muscle and punch to the intense mineral and soil inflected flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a driving finish. This is textbook Sentiers and absolutely worth a look.
