Vineyard: Forman Estate Vineyard. St. Helena Appellation-all hillside vineyards surrounding the winery at the base of Howell Mountain.
Viticulture: Traditional farming in a Bordelaise sense. Classical vertical trellis used with meticulous hand placement of the canopy to expose maximum leaf surface to nourish the developing grapes. Throughout the growing season each vine is tended to no less than 16 times. Canopy training, suckering, leaf removal and multiple green grape thinning goes on from mid- April through mid-August, all done by hand to assure accuracy and quality judgment.
Vinification: 2-4 tons jacketed stainless steel; fermentation about 3-4 weeks.
Aging: Aged in 100% Bordeaux coopers
Production: 500 cases
Notes: Grande Roche has a very pretty dark red color with brilliant clarity with nuances of licorice & currant on the nose. Dusty herbal fruitiness with tobacco and cedar. Firm tannins, healthy acidity, power and persistence.
