Vineyard: Les Perelles is a 250 meter altitude Chenas vineyard owned and farmed by Thillardon, who was kindly willing to sell the Dutraive family some fruit following the destructive storms that ravaged Fleurie vineyards.
Soil: Sedimentary, gravelly, alluvial soils; very compact.
Viticulture: Farmed organically
Vinification: Semi-carbon fermentation/maceration; no sulfur in vinification, all wild yeast fermenation
Aging: Aged in combination of stainless steel tank and barrel
Production: Very limited
Notes: Les Perelles Chenas is one of four wines from the Dutraive family negociant project created in response to crop losses of 90% from storms that ravaged the vineyards of Fleurie. While it is farmed by family friend Paul-Henri Thillardon, it tastes like a Dutraive wine with its fresh-fruit quality and energetic style.

The 2016 Chenas Les Pérelles has a fresh cranberry and raspberry-scented bouquet with just a hint of coca in the background. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, offering simple red berry fruit and just a touch of spice and orange zest on the tapering finish. Drink over then next three or four years.

With the Dutraive family’s home base of Fleurie battered by both frost damage and extensive battering by the hail of 2016, fully ninety percent of their production in their own vineyards was lost to the twin terrors of this year, forcing them to buy a ne´gociant license and search for some fruit to purchase so that they could make a bit of wine in 2016. These two bottlings of Che´nas are both produced from purchased fruit, with the les Perelles delivering a truly beautiful and quite sappy bouquet of cherries, pomegranate, incipient gamebird, a dollop of cranberry, bonfire, soil and a hint of fresh bay in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, fullish and beautifully balanced, with a good core, excellent transparency, tangy acids and impressive length and grip on the bouncy and complex finish. Just lovely Che´nas! 2017-2030.
