Isabelle & Denis Pommier
Beauroy is a Premier Cru-classified climat of Chablis, located just to the north-west of the village of Chablis, within the communes of Poinchy and Beine. The slopes of this vineyard are relatively shallow. The Beauroy climat comprises the Beauroy, Cote de Savant and Troesmes sub-climats, which are themselves made up of several named vineyards. Pommier's Beauroy is sourced from the Troesmes sub-climat.
Kimmeridgien - limestone and white clay, shallow topsoil
AgriBio certified since 2010. Farms organically and manually works the soils. Grapes are harvested in small cases of 15 kg and are immediately pressed.
Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in 50% tank and 50% neutral barrels of varying age.
Blended wines are aged on the lees for 18 months in combination of 2/3 tank and 1/3 oak.
The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Troesmes comes from the Pommier's 1.80 hectare of 45-year-old vines on white marne soils. Aged 70% in stainless steel and 30% in used barrels, it has a lean, flinty bouquet that needs to muster more vigor in the glass. The palate is fresh and tensile on the entry, nicely focused with a brisk, quite saline finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This is a well-made right bank Chablis premier cru.
A mildly exotic nose features notes of white peach, melon and iodine that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The dense, opulent and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess ample dry extract, all wrapped in a powerful if not especially vibrant finale. This too should drink well on the early side.
