Notes: Lunta Malbec comes from the southernmost parcel of the Mendel estate vineyard which lies in Lunlunta, a small district within Mendoza’s Lujan de Cuyo department as you approach the Mendoza River. These vines produce a fruitier, more medium-bodied wine as compared to the Well-structured Mendel Malbec, and it can be enjoyed at a younger age. Intense fruity aromas of raspberry, plum, blackberry and cassis immediately greet you upon first sniff. These explosive fruit notes continue on the palate of this light-bodied, easy to drink Malbec. Soft tannins give way to a long finish making this wine enjoyable on its own or paired with pork tenderloin or lamb.

There were two vintages to taste from a number of wines, as was the case with the 2014 Lunta Malbec, sourced from an ungrafted vineyard planted in 1928 in Mayor Drummond in Luján de Cuyo at some 980 meters altitude and another one in Paraje Altamira in the Valle de Uco. It fermented in stainless steel tanks, and half of the volume was put in second and third use French oak barrels for one year. The aim here is to produce a fresher and lighter wine, easier to drink, harvesting a little earlier and also adding some grapes from cooler places in the Valle de Uco with a short maceration. The result is a fruit-driven red with some floral hints and no trace of oak, which was also used to let the wine breathe rather than lend aromas to the wine. The palate is refreshing, with ripe fruit flavors and a spicy touch but no oak flavors. Ready to be enjoyed with light foods. 70,000 bottles produced.
