The 2016 Chablis en Vaudecorse, which comes from a plot adjacent to Vaucoupin, was cropped on 30 September. It has a fragrant white flower-scented bouquet that gently unfolds in the glass. The palate is well balanced, linear and taut with superb focus, building in the mouth towards the classy, precise finish. This should be worth investigating once in bottle although unlike the Chablis Village, I have a small preference for the 2015.
(these vines, from a layer of clay soil rich in active Kimmeridgian calcaire, were picked at the end): Full yellow. Ripe apricot plus an element of flinty minerality that I did not find in the basic village cuvée. Fatter and sweeter on the palate as well, showing an almost glyceral texture and a distinctly saline quality to go with its exotic fruit character. Finishes broad, full and long. Owing to substantial millerandage in these vines, this fruit came in with potential alcohol close to 13% (the 2015 was 14%!) and was not chaptalized.
