Aging: 50 year old wine on average at time of bottling.
Notes: Located in the extreme northwest corner of the Island of Madeira, Porto Moniz is legendary for its wines, particularly those produced from steep terraced vineyards in Ribeira da Janela. This part of the island, where the north coast meets the south, produced many great wines, bearing names like Porto Moniz and Ponta do Pargo. The old Malvasia in this bottle is a superb example of this noble legacy. Bottled in September 2011, just 300 bottles of this old Porto Moniz Malvasia were produced.

The superb non-vintage RWC Porto Moniz Malvasia is sourced from the red Malvasia Roxa rather than the white Malvasia Candida. It has a gorgeous bouquet of syrup, dried mango, wild mint and lemongrass that is more outspoken than the Verdelho. The palate is superbly balanced and defined on the entry with touches of ginger, marmalade, cumin and white pepper that combine to glorious effect on the razor sharp finish. It is a master class in control and intensity.
